Every pallet drop zone on a mezzanine needs fall protection, but not every opening is the same. Ceiling clearance, deck space, traffic volume, and the type of load all affect which gate will work best. Every Levelizer® mezzanine safety gate from Diverse Manufacturing Solutions eliminates exposed leading edges during pallet loading and unloading and supports OSHA 1910.29 compliance, but each model is built for different site conditions. Here is how the five core gates compare.
| Gate | How it works | Best for | Key features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Levelizer® E3 | Uses the space between the forklift forks and the pallet load, so material is transferred to the mezzanine without the operator opening or closing a gate. The patented design mechanically prevents the gate from ever being left open. | Facilities that want a mechanically fail-safe gate, applications where forklifts or pallet jacks deliver loads to elevated levels, and operations that value space efficiency and simplicity. | U.S. Patent No. 9,938,736; dual up-and-down cargo flow; mezzanine access without opening a gate; bolted or welded installation; enamel finish or stainless steel. |
| Levelizer® E35 | Combines the proven E3 mid-rail with dual self-closing top articulating arms. It operates entirely within the gate envelope. | Heavy-duty industrial environments, operations where mezzanine or platform space is limited, and facilities upgrading from legacy mezzanine gate systems. | U.S. Patent Pending; no loss of usable space on the mezzanine deck or work platform; dual up-and-down cargo flow; custom sizes; stainless steel option. |
| Levelizer® E7 | A dual-gate system with a self-closing inner gate (with omni-rollers and articulating arms) and an outer gate with a built-in toe kick. It operates entirely within the gate envelope. | Dual pallet flow without giving up work-platform space, replacing bulky legacy dual-gate systems, and keeping the existing mezzanine height. | U.S. Patent No. 11,174,605; stocked 60-inch and 72-inch clear openings; works at your current platform height; custom sizes; stainless steel option. |
| Levelizer® E8 | A compact dual-gate system: a self-closing, articulating inner gate provides full pallet access while the outer gate keeps the leading edge protected. A base plate includes a built-in toe kick. | Mezzanines with limited overhead clearance, tight industrial layouts, and retrofit projects where platform height must stay the same. | U.S. Patent Pending; smaller footprint than the E7; works at your current platform height; custom sizes; stainless steel option. |
| Levelizer® E9 | An advanced evolution of the E7. It is a dual-gate system that operates within its own gate envelope and adds a third-rail inner gate, a solid roller pack, and removable stainless steel strike panels. | High-throughput loading zones and facilities that handle empty pallets, lightweight loads, or irregular loads where gate hang-ups are a concern. | U.S. Patent Pending; standard 60-inch and 72-inch openings; integrates with existing platform height; custom sizes and stainless steel configurations. |
Choose the Levelizer® E3. Its patented design physically prevents the gate from staying open, so protection is built into how the gate operates rather than depending on procedures, training, or memory. Because loads pass through the space between the forks and the pallet, operators can also reach the mezzanine without opening a gate.
All five gates are built for pallet transfer at elevated platforms. If forklifts or pallet jacks deliver loads and you want the simplest engineered control, start with the E3. For a dual-gate system, compare the E7, E8, E9, and E35.
The E7, E9, and E35 all operate entirely within the gate envelope, so they don't take up usable deck or platform space. Unlike traditional dual-gate systems that extend onto the mezzanine deck, the E7 and E9 keep the work platform clear.
The Levelizer® E8 was purpose-built for facilities where overhead obstructions, ceiling height, or existing configurations limit clearance. It has a smaller footprint than the E7 and works at your current platform height. The E7 and E9 are also designed to work with your existing platform height, which avoids costly structural modifications.
The Levelizer® E35 is the heavy-duty option. It pairs the E3 mid-rail with dual top articulating arms and is suited to frequent pallet transfer and applications that need extra durability.
Consider the Levelizer® E9. Its third-rail inner gate, solid roller pack, and removable stainless steel strike panels help prevent gate hang-ups and improve unloading, especially with empty pallets, lightweight materials, or irregular loads.
The E7 is stocked in 60-inch and 72-inch clear openings, and the E9 comes in standard 60-inch and 72-inch openings. All five gates are available in custom sizes, and each offers a stainless steel option. For project timelines and pricing, contact DMS.
The Levelizer® E7 Dual Flow-Gate is designed for pick decks and continuous pallet flow. It offers maximum gate opening, full pallet access, and dual pallet system capability.
The Levelizer® E7 Cube combines a mezzanine safety gate with a self-leveling lift platform for ergonomic pallet build-up and breakdown. The Levelizer® E7-Cube ZERO adds an adaptive platform that starts at the zero position for drums and handles mixed loads of bags, buckets, and drums.
The right choice depends on your available platform height, the direction of pallet flow, throughput, product type, ergonomic needs, and available deck space. The DMS team can review your mezzanine dimensions, pallet sizes, material flow, and clearance conditions to recommend the right Levelizer® gate for your operation.
